Dr. Qutaiba Myasar Abdulrahman is a distinguished Iraqi cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon (M.B.Ch.B, FIBMS).He graduated from Al-Mustansiriyah College of Medicine, Baghdad, Iraq, in 2000, one of the leading Iraqi medical institutions renowned for its clinical excellence.

Following graduation, he completed two years of rotational internship (house-officer training) at several major hospitals, including:

During this period, he gained hands-on experience in internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology.

In 2003, Dr. Qutaiba was accepted for postgraduate training in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery under the Iraqi Board for Medical Specializations.His five-year residency (2003–2008) took place in Iraq’s top tertiary centers:

  • Medical City Teaching Hospital

  • Ibn Al-Nafees Teaching Hospital

He successfully obtained the Fellowship of the Iraqi Board of Medical Specializations (FIBMS) in Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2008.


Career and Achievements

Dr. Qutaiba began his career as a Senior Specialist in Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Surgical Specialties Hospital – Medical City, serving for five months where he contributed to complex thoracic cases.

He then joined the Ibn Al-Bitar Cardiac Surgery Center (2009 – 2013) as a Senior Registrar in Cardiac Surgery, assisting in over 400 cardiac procedures — approximately 250 adult and 150 pediatric cases including open and closed heart surgeries.

Since 2013, he has served as a First-Line Cardiac Surgeon, taking lead roles in major operations and developing protocols for post-operative care in Iraqi hospitals.Between February 2015 and August 2016, he worked at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital as a Thoracic and Vascular Surgeon, where he enhanced vascular emergency response systems.

Since September 2016, Dr. Qutaiba has been a leading Cardiac Surgeon at Nasiriyah Heart Center, a prominent institution serving southern Iraq.His work has significantly advanced the Center’s surgical capacity and training of junior surgeons.
